Agility Training

Dog agility combines handler control, athletism, and confidence in a sport where a dog is guided through a course of obstacles (Aframe, Tunnels, Jumps, Weave Polls, See-Saw, etc.) within a time limit.

In competition handlers may give an unlimited number of commands or signals to their dog, but may not touch the dog or equipment. Dogs are 'faulted' for actions such as taking down a jump bar, failing to put one or more feet on safety zone of contact equipment, and taking obstacles out of sequence. Time penalties are additionally added for dogs that go over the 'Standard Course Time' established by the judge.

Training Schedule (2010)

Class fees are $80 per 7 week session, $60 per 5 week class session. Proof of current vaccination status required.

BEGINNING AGILITY	THURSDAYS Instructed by Michele Duckett			7:30 - 8:30 PM
Join us for an introduction to the basics of dog agility! This class includes beginning knowledge of obstacles, weave poles, & various jumps. Dogs at this level must be at least 1 year of age, & must have basic obedience skills.
New classes beginning:	Jan 7	Mar 4	Apr 29		Sept 16

AGILITY FOUNDATION	WEDNESDAYS Instructed by Aletha Williams			8:00 - 9:00 PM
Build a solid foundation for the competitive agility team! Focus will be on the details of contact execution & handling skills necessary for success. Dogs at this level must have successfully completed Beginning Agility, or have prior instructor approval.
New 7 Week classes beginning:	Jan 6	Mar 3	Apr 28		Sept 15

INTERMEDIATE AGILITY	WEDNESDAYS Instructed by Roger Thayer			6:30 - 7:30 PM
Polish those basic skills & put it all together for a ring ready performance! Focus will be on more complex handling skills, control, & the development of a teamwork relationship. Dogs at this level must have Agility Foundation competency. Instructor approval is required.
New 5 Week classes beginning:	Jan 6	Mar 3	Apr 28		Sept 15

ADVANCED AGILITY	TUESDAYS Instructed by Yoko Thayer			7:00 - 8:00 PM
Learn & maintain advanced skills that will prepare you to excel in agility competition! Higher knowledge, advanced skill level, & off leash work are required for this class. All dogs at this level must have completed Intermediate Agility, & be under the handler's control for advanced off-leash work. Instructor approval is required. *** No classes on 2nd Tuesday of each month due to SCKC meeting! ***
